Ohio Sen. Vance on shortlist for Trump VP pick

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — The Republican National Convention begins Sunday in Milwaukee, and it could be of big interest to our region as one of the finalists for vice president is from Ohio.

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) is on the “Final Three” list to be former President Donald Trump’s running mate. The others are Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND). Vance may get the nod with Ohio being a crucial swing state.

Some West Virginia delegates are already in Milwaukee for the convention and are reacting to the possibility JD Vance could be on the ticket.

“I have seen Senator Vance. He is a strong Republican. He also carries the belief of our Republican Party and our platform. He is a smart individual who can serve in that capacity and would do a phenomenal job,” said Beth Bloch, West Virginia Republican National Committeewoman.

Trump could name his running mate at the convention that begins in Milwaukee on Sunday, but it’s possible he could do it before then.

A 39-year-old Ohio State and Yale graduate, Sen. Vance came to national prominence in 2016 when he wrote the book “Hillbilly Elegy,” about poverty and addiction problems in Appalachia. He was elected to the US Senate in 2022.

No Republican has ever won the White House in this country without winning the key battleground state of Ohio.
