What Tony Vitello said about the Hoosiers

About what stands out about Indiana

“In the beginning you would hear all these things, and I was afraid people would text me about music. All this happens all week, I don’t listen to it, but if it’s loud enough you can hear it. People claiming that they are either no good or shouldn’t participate in the tournament is madness. When you pull back the curtain, you have a team that suffered injuries early in the year that they had to overcome. Prior to these injuries, there is a lot of deserved hype behind the team. There are a number of future top players in the team. They also have a pretty proud winning tradition. They’ve been here before and they’re a well-coached group. So I think as they work through some of the issues, as we did too early in the year, they’ve started to discover themselves. They are a complete team, I bet it just looks different than how they mapped it out in August. They are brave. They put a lot of effort into their starters, and lineups one through nine did some damage today. The only category that was discussed was doubles, but they are a well-balanced team.”

How they got here

Indiana landed in the Knoxville Regional as a three seed after a solid regular season and Big 10 Tournament run. The Hoosiers jumped early on Southern Miss and cruised to a 10-4 victory in their NCAA Tournament opener Friday afternoon.

Regional host Tennessee overcame a narrow first-inning deficit before defeating Northern Kentucky 9-3 on Friday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
