Amarillo man saves children from car fire

We always want to praise people who do heroic things, and we see a lot of that happening every day in Amarillo. You might imagine that almost everyone would want to pat someone on the back for doing something like that.

Well, something like that just happened here, and unfortunately someone great decided NOT to praise this person for his heroic act and quick thinking.

According to a Facebook post, a security guard at Walmart on Georgia St. saw a car on fire and ran to the parking lot to help. On the way, he grabbed a fire extinguisher to help put out the fire.

When he arrived at the car, he saw that there were children in the car. The security guard acted quickly and started spraying the fire extinguisher on the car. This act undoubtedly saved some lives, and young lives at that.

Unfortunately, Walmart didn’t see the act the same way everyone else did. While this guard was being hailed as a hero by everyone around him, his employer was busy admonishing him for what he did.

As you can see from the post above, the security guard ended up getting in trouble with his bosses for leaving his post no matter what was going on. There are several comments on why people think that got him in trouble.

Whatever the reason, Walmart should NOT be mad at this employee. So what if someone makes off with a few hundred dollars worth of merchandise that they didn’t purchase? You have insurance, it’s covered.

So what if the guard injured himself while trying to save the lives of several people with this act? I’m sure your company can cover the medical costs for a sprained ankle or whatever, right?

What you cannot replace are the lives that could have been lost in this event. In that respect, he is a real hero, no matter what his employer thinks or feels. I’m glad to see he’s looking for a new job because if you can’t appreciate this type of employee, you’ll never appreciate anyone.
