Southeast Texas is particularly vulnerable. The Houston region will be hit by heavy thunderstorms until 6 p.m. local time.

The risk of storms moves north on Sunday, with the Dakotas, Nebraska, western Minnesota and Iowa in the bull’s eye for damaging winds and large hail.

The risk of severe weather is expected to decrease across the country after the weekend.

But next week the heat is expected to increase dramatically in the West. Triple-digit temperatures will hit cities like Sacramento, Phoenix and Las Vegas by mid-week.
