Sister Sheila Megley, RSM Obituary

Sister Sheila Megley, RSM, beloved Sister of Mercy and leader in Catholic education for 50 years. Daughter of the late Anna (nee Feely) and John Megley of Avon, Massachusetts. Cherished sister of Jane (the late James) Parker; the late John (Barbara) Megley; the late Anne (Kenneth) Zwarycz; the late David Megley; and beloved aunt and great-aunt of many nieces and nephews. Sister Sheila attended Siena High School and earned degrees in multiple disciplines: mathematics, education and philosophy (BS-Rosary College), theology (MA-Saint Xavier University), financial accounting/management (MS-Salve Regina University), and English literature (MA-University of Chicago; PhD, University of Nebraska). She was a transformational leader, first as dean of students and then vice president and provost of Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island (1974-1992) and then as president of Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts (1992-2001). . During her “retirement,” she served as director of development at Mother McAuley High School (Chicago), president of St. Francis High School (Wheaton, Illinois), and led the Sisters of Mercy Chicago and the West Midwest Community, where she was a driving force in the planning and construction of Mercy Circle, a continuing care and retirement community for religious and laity. Sister Sheila served on numerous boards and committees throughout her life, including Saint Xavier University (Chicago), Rivier College (New Hampshire), and the College of Saint Mary (Omaha). Monday, June 3, prayer service at 4:00 PM, followed by visitation until 7:00 PM at Mercy Chapel, Illinois Room, 10044 S. Central Park Ave, Chicago. Tuesday, June 4, visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial: Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery.
