Thomas Vance Owenby died on May 21, 2024 at the age of 91 in Dayton, Tennessee.

He was born on December 12, 1932 in Dayton to George and Nancy Owenby. He was of the faith of the Church of God. Known for his warm and welcoming nature, Vance never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need. His true pride and joy were his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, life partner and friends. He was a man of integrity who believed that a person’s word is their honor.

Vance proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957. After his military service, he pursued a career as a boilermaker at Combustion Engineering. Vance was a skilled craftsman, who excelled at various tasks such as rebuilding tractors, woodworking, electrical work, plumbing, and making birdhouses and bird feeders. He had a passion for gardening and took great pride in his flower gardens and garden.

He is survived by his son Mike (Wilma) Owenby, daughter Terri (Tim) Henry, life partner Maxine Collier, and was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Juanita (Sedman) Owenby and son Randal Owenby. Vance will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A gathering celebrating Vance’s life will be held at Garrison Baptist Church on June 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Garrison Baptist Church, 260 Garrison Road, Dayton, Tn. 37321, in his memory.

The family is under the care of Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343. We would like to send a special thank you to Tom Wilson for all his help, support and compassion, we are forever grateful.
