Report of tiger on the loose in Cincinnati, police search area

Police in southwestern Ohio confirmed they were investigating a reported tiger sighting near the University of Cincinnati on Monday morning.

A UC Department of Public Safety dispatcher said the agency received the call around 3 a.m

The school is located just south of the Clifton neighborhood, about five miles north of downtown Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Zoo communications director Michelle Curley told USA TODAY that all tigers at the zoo are registered.

The zoo is less than a mile from the university.

“Our tigers are safe and sound at the zoo,” Curley said of the two tigers at the park.

Residents are asked to avoid the area

People were asked to avoid the area.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, police had not located a tiger around 7 a.m. local time on Monday, an affiliate of the USA TODAY Network reported, citing media partner Fox 19.
