Volleyball earns commitment from Destiny Wiggins

CHATTANOOGA — Chattanooga indoor volleyball continues to bolster its front-row attackers as summer rears its head, with head coach Julie Torbett Thomas announcing the addition of freshman walk-on Lot Wiggins to the team’s roster for 2024.

A multiple Skyline All-Conference honoree during her time playing at Maranatha Christian Academy in Minnesota, Wiggins will play a role on the other side of the Mocs, making Coach Torbett Thomas the eighth addition to the squad this season on the first row marks.

Lot Wiggins will be a solid player for us on the right side,” Torbett Thomas said. “She is a strong blocker and a tough competitor. Destiny comes from a very athletic family: her mother ran track and her father played basketball in college, while her younger brother is a basketball standout.

Destiny is also an excellent student. What attracted us most were her strong family values, her commitment to excellence both on and off the field, and her engaging personality.”

A standout for Maranatha Christian Academy, Wiggins claimed her team’s Most Valuable Player title in each of her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. This is compounded by earning back-to-back Skyline All-Conference honors as an upperclassman, in addition to being named to the High Honor Roll All-State Team her senior year.

Off the field, Wiggins is a star in the classroom, as he was a High A Honor Roll student for the Mustangs. Additionally, Wiggins received the President Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence during her time in Minnesota.

Born on February 10, 2006 and originally from Plymouth, Minnesota, Destiny is the daughter of Timmiria and DeMon Wiggins. She also has two younger siblings: Christian (brother) and Eden (sister). Both of Destiny’s parents competed at the collegiate level, with Timmiria running track while DeMon played basketball. Wiggins plans to study business management while attending UTC.
